Next Stop – Winsor Farm

Posted by on September 23, 2012

This month my Quest brings me and Jaliska to the quaint little town of North Scituate, Rhode Island. Home to Grand Prix rider and trainer Bill Lowry.

It was suggested that I work with Bill by my first trainer, Cormac Kennedy, ealier this spring and my second trainer, Adrienne Iorio, wholeheartedly agreed. Given that both Jaliska and I wish to compete in a Grand Prix one day, it only makes sense to work with someone who has already done so, many times over, I might add, and quite successfully too.

So I borrow my friend’s bright orange pickup truck and trailer and load up Jaliska for the hour trip to Bill’s place – Winsor Farm. I say goodbye to my friends at Apple Knoll Farm, adding, “I will be back one day.”  This is the second barn I have had to leave in my Quest and, alas, it never seems to get any easier.

My friends, the Crawford’s, loan me their truck and trailer to cart Jaliska to Winsor Farm in Rhode Island.

When Jaliska and I arrive at Bill’s, I meet his wife, Abby, who is also an instructor, along with trainer, Dinette, and groom, Alonso. All immediately make Jaliska and I feel right at home.  The farm itself is quite lovely, with its lush grassy hills and apple trees. Jaliska and I settle in.

Suddenly, I am overcome with excitment in anticipation of this next chapter in my journey for the Prix. Will Bill finally get me to keep my heels down? Can Abby help me to ride relaxed? Will Jaliska canter without switching her leads? Stay tuned…

Bill wins the $50,000 HITS Grand Prix aboard Rio Corde.
